AirPods Max With USB-C Won’t Arrive Until Late 2024, According to Gurman

Highlights:

  • Apple is not expected to upgrade the AirPods Max until late 2024, Says Mark Gurman.
  • Apple to swap Lightning Port to USB-C port to abide by the European regulations and consistency across its AirPods lineup.
  • The AirPods Max is receiving USB-C port and some impressive fresh colors, otherwise there’s no big changes as such.

According to the fresh reports by Mark Gurman in his newsletter in Bloomberg, Apple is not expected to upgrade the AirPods Max until late 2024. The new AirPods Max receives a USB-C port and some interesting fresh colours. Otherwise, there are no major changes as such. Furthermore, it also shows that Apple is centrally focused on the product, which hasn’t received any update since 2020.

Gurman states that Apple will finally swap out the Lightning port for a USB-C port in order to abide by European regulations and consistency across its AirPods lineup. Still, the brand is planning to wait to add the H2 chip and its supporting features, including Adaptive Audio and Personalized Volume, in the near future.

And if so, then the forthcoming AirPods Max might continue to feature the H1 but not the H2 chip. The customers who were hoping to get some major enhancements to Apple’s $550 headphones seemingly left disappointed, with no such impressive and major tweaks coming to the design, lack of H2 chip and more.

Moreover, it was reported by Gurman last week that the AirPods lineup, consisting of three models, as well as Mac accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and the Magic Trackpad, are expected to be replaced to USB-C port by 2024.

The upcoming version of Apple’s over-ear headphones will be exactly similar to the existing models, which the brand itself won’t even be able to change the generation number, such as the USB-C AirPods Pro.

That being said, Gurman has high expectations that Apple’s plans could potentially change between now and the AirPods Max release.
